Last year the Lego Star Wars series launched for all consoles with the frst title, known as Lego Star Wars. Now it’s time for the second game of the series which will also be available on PSP aswell as PS2 and other consoles. The PSP version looks almost identical to the PS2 version, with a few effects missing and a small drop in texture quality, but nothing major.
Every level, character and scenario in the console version of the game is all made portable, including all the bonus material.
The game looks childish and cute, but is one of the best Star Wars games out there, with single and co-oprative play, puzzles and races making this game a instant classic.
The demo that was shown at Lucasart’s E3 booth showed the start of the game. Since based on the original trilogy, the first stage is a mirror of the opening battle of Episode IV: A New Hope. The two characters, rebel solidier and princess Leia can both be controlled at different times by using the triangle button. Every character has their own unique abilities which can help you solve puzzles and overcome obstacles through your adventure.
One of the first things that will have to be done is you will have to solve a "build" puzzle. Standing next to a number of Lego blocks scattered around the environment and pressing the circle button can quickly create an object to help you past a certain obstacle. Some of these puzzles require you to build something with the rebel soldier and then do the same at another location with the princess.
After, you will find yourself staring down the barrel of Imperial laser blasters. Just like in the first Lego Star Wars game, action in Lego Star Wars II is fast and very simple. The X button is used to take out your blaster and when pressed again again allows you to fire, aiming at enemies is easy and accurate, just like in the first game. In the game you’ll face every enemy that was seen in the original, from storm troopers, to a wide assortmentof alien beasts.
There is alot of cool stuff in the PSP version, a Boss Battle Mode, where you can battle the bosses that you have defeated in the story campaign. In Challenge Mode you can play the levels you have completed again to earn Lego pieces. The Lego pieces can then be taken into a character creator to make whatever Star Wars icon you want. The game also features Ad-Hoc wireless multiplayer for two players, so the multiplayer fun that was featured on the first game hasn’t been left put. Players can also share every character that they have created wirelessly with friends, that’s more than a Million character variations.
Stay tuned for more information.
